PLANS to overhaul the availability of car parking spaces in St Andrews came under fire this week following the publication of the council's latest proposals.
Under the new scheme, the number of free, long-term parking spaces would be greatly reduced — with only the lower sections of the Petheram Bridge remaining available.
The upper sections, which are currently free, would become chargeable at a cost of £3.40 for over four hours.
All other free parking in the town centre would disappear, with charges being introduced on North Street, Queens Gardens and Terrace as well as along The Scores and at Murray Park.
There are fears a lack of free parking will impact on the ability of workers from outwith the town to commute every day.
