A SILENT auction to raise funds for Strathkinness Primary School and SANDS (Still Born and Neonatal Death Syndrome), the UK charity supporting bereaved parents and their families, has netted almost £1500 for the two causes.
The auction was devised by PC Susan Martin, who initially appealed to the St Andrews community for prizes to give to children at the primary school taking part in a road safety initiative.
After she was inundated with gifts, PC Martin decided a silent auction would be the ideal fund-raising vehicle.
More than 130 bids were received on the lots, which ranged from paintings, photographs, a selection of meals, driving lessons and beauty products. through to a luxury weekend break and the services of a personal chef.
The weekend break to Aviemore attracted the most bids — and one of the highest.
Other high-bid lots included a limited edition bottle of whisky and a dinner party for eight people prepared by the chef of St Andrews Seafood Restaurant.
This prize was secured by police superintendent Alex Duncan, who said he was "delighted".
"We are having an extension built on to the house in September, and we are hoping to use the prize to host an 'extension party' for family members before Christmas," Superintendent Duncan told the Citizen.
"The restaurant's excellent reputation speaks for itself and we are really looking forward to the chef sharing some tips with us on the night for cooking perfect seafood."
PC Martin expressed her thanks to everyone who had donated prizes and those who took part in the auction.
"I was inundated with donations and bids," she said.
