VERSATILE St Andrews singer, Beth Wilmshurst has made it to the 'T-Break' stage at T in the Park this summer.
The 23-year-old, who has just released a new three-track CD, 'Climbing Trees', with a varied eclectic sound, says she is looking forward to the festival being held at Balado airfield, near Kinross, from Friday, July 11, until Sunday, July 13.
Her older and more famous fellow ex-Madras pupil, KT Tunstall, will also be there, but on the main stage, which will also feature The Verve, Stereophonics and Newton Faulkner.
Beth, whose parents live in St Andrews, shares a flat with a friend in Stirling, where she went to university.
Born in Leeds, she is the youngest of a family of four and has two brothers and a sister.
While she has been gigging for just two years, she says she has been singing and writing since she was 12.
Already, she has supported Newton Faulkner, Willy Mason and The Aliens, enjoyed a 'mud-tastic' slot at the inaugural Connect Festival at Inverary Castle last year and recently featured on Vic Galloway's 'Introducing' show on Radio 1.
She told the Citizen she enjoys experimenting with electronica and acoustic, and is always open to discovering new music and collaborating with other artists.
"My live performances are mainly acoustic, she said, "but I like to experiment when I'm recording. I'm influenced by all sorts —electronica, punk, folk, rock. I'm pretty open-minded and i like to try and remain versatile.
"Lyrically, I guess I'm inspired by artists such as: The Weepies, Dallas Green, Jeff Buckley, P. J. Harvey, Lauryn Hill, and probably many more I'm unaware of.
"My main influence for song-writing comes from love, life, everyday things and people, as I'm sure it does for most writers."
Supporting Beth in making and producing her sound is Jesse Duley, also known as 'Jester' who runs his own small recording studio at his home in Springfield.
Jesse has played acoustic and electric guitars, bass, piano, keyboards and synths, percussion and drum programming, mandolin, banjo, accordion, and: "all manner of other bizarre instruments, just to get the right sound" on various recordings.
Beth agrees: "It's a home studio he has set up himself, but its perfect. You can do an awful lot of amazing things in a home studio these days, especially with a decent producer and musicians!"
