Monday night and Frankie & Benny’s was bustling and busy.

It was my first visit to the Kirkcaldy restaurant, and I was impressed with just how many folk were in.

The American Italian diner has just launched a new menu which we were there to sample and, one range of three course meals later, we were all absolutely full!

You know what you get at Frankie & Benny’s - good sized portions served fresh and hot, and the new menu doesn’t disappoint.

The favourites are all still there, but so too are some tempting new offerings, and it’s definitely worth trying something different from your normal order.

So I began with garlic bread.

Yup, it doesn’t come as traditional as that, but, hold on, this is not just any old garlic bread - the standard three slices I anticipated turned out to be a pizza in its own right and with the twist of a fabulously tangly BBQ relish, red onion and chilli flakes. Oh, and a dip! To be honest it’d make a great shared starter on its own.

I also went with the waiter’s recommendation of the chicken and chorizo pizza - one of their new dishes.

Must admit I thoroughly enjoyed it - it comes on a thin base, and is very tasty!

Our junior reviewers opted for a basic pizza - thumbs up there - and one of the new dishes, a Grilled Chicken Pitta which is a whole fresh chicken breast cooked on the grill and served in a toasted pitta bread, already stuffed with crispy lettuce and mayo.

Add in a chunky corn on the cob and some chips and it was a mighty meal - but one that got full marks.

The pitta came come with a dip of your choice - and it’s a pretty good range too.

Desserts?

To be honest we’d had more than enough after two courses, but there’s always room for something sweet!

I went for the raspberry sorbet which was served up a knickerbocker-glory glass while our 11-year old reviewer opted for the full sundae and demolished it!

Overall, a first class meal, with good service - drinks were topped up throughout and the staff were great with the kids in a restaurant that always has a buzz of atmosphere whatever time you pop in.

The new menu is excellent and well worth exploring.
