Coronavirus: Kino closes Fife cinemas with pledge - 'we'll be back'

The independent operator has popular cinemas in Glenrothes and Leven.

The screens at both went blank on Tuesday.

The decision follows the same pattern as national chains, Cineworld and Odeon who have both closed all their cinemas in a bid to halt the spread of coronavirus.

But it is was on taken with a heavy heart.

A statement from the management said: “It is with an enormous sense of deep regret that we have to announce the cinema closed on Tuesday as a result of coronavirus.“This decision has not been taken lightly and is a precaution to help protect the health and safety of our customers and staff.”

The owners pledged that this was a short-term measure and that the popular local cinema would be back in operation once the virus was under control.

It also said it would be in touch with all customers to sort out any advance ticket bookings for films which now won’t be shown as planned.

The statement continued:: “Customers who have tickets booked for any performances between now and the beginning of April will be contacted soon to arrange a refund or, if possible, a transfer of your booking to a future date.”

The Kino also paid tribute to the community fort its support.

“We would like to thank all our amazing customers for their support, particularly over the past few days, which have been the darkest and most difficult days of our 10 years of running cinemas,” it said.

“We would also like to thank our staff who have been extraordinarily supportive and understanding over this whole sorry situation.

“We would also like to make clear that this is a temporary closure. We will be back – we just don’t know when we’ll be back at the moment.“And the good news is when we do return, we will have an incredible slate of films to show you!”
