A Fife flavour to BBC cookery programme

Fife will be the focus for this week’s episode of The Great Food Guys on the BBC Scotland channel.

The series sees Nick Nairn and Dougie Vipond celebrate the fantastic range of food and drink Scotland has to offer, and in the second episode, which airs on Thursday, July 16 at 8pm, they will be joined in their country kitchen by two Fifers.

Michelin starred chef Billy Boyter from The Cellar in Anstruther and crime writer Val McDermid will be with them as they focus on wild food, with gnocchi with smoked haddock and wild greens on the menu.

Dougie Vipond said: “We are back at our countryside kitchen to cook some great food inspired by our road trips.”

Recorded before lockdown restrictions took effect, the programme will also feature sample sessions – out on the road with the Landward van - with locals in Aberdeen and Oban, plus a report on foraging for food with Nick and Dougie in Dunottar Woods.

Other guests who will feature later in the series Still Game’s Jane McCarry, comedian farmer Jim Smith, TV presenter JJ Chalmers, Call the Midwife’s Laura Main, River City’s Sanjeev Kohli and weather presenter Judith Ralston.

The Great Food Guys, which is produced by BBC Studios The Documentary Unit Scotland, will also go out on BBC One on Saturday mornings at 11.30am.
