The day Sean Connery opened a Fife theatre

Bond at the Byre …

The Byre Theatre in St Andrews celebrates its birthday this weekend.

June 6, 2001 saw Sir Sean Connery in town to perform the official opening.

The arrival of 007 sparked huge interest as he formally cut the ribbon on what was Fife’s newest arts venue.

And Sir Sean was fulsome in his praise of the new £5.5m facility.

He said: "This is quite simply a spectacularly designed and most welcoming theatre, which houses one of the best small auditoriums I have come across," he said.

The first show was slated for June 2001 when the musical Into the Woods took to the stage.
