1200 new jobs for Amazon's Fife centre

Fife has received a much needed jobs boost with the news that Amazon is to create 1200 posts at its huge centre off the M90.

The fulfilment centre in Dunfermline is set to recruit for 200 permanent posts, with another 1000 seasonal workers needed for the Christmas rush.

The announcement formed part of national plan which will see Amazing create 10,000 jobs across the UK.

The new roles will include will include HR and IT professionals, health and safety and finance specialists plus engineers and graduates.

The company also wants teams to pack and ship customer orders for Black Friday and the festive rush in December.

Stefano Perego, Amazon’s vice president of European customer fulfilment, said: “We’re proud to be creating 10,000 new permanent roles across our UK network of fulfilment centres, sort centres and delivery stations offering competitive wages and comprehensive benefits starting on day one.

"Our people have played a critical role in serving customers in these unprecedented times and the new roles will help us continue to meet customer demand and support small and medium sized businesses selling on Amazon."

Mr Perego added: “We look forward to welcoming back seasonal workers who return year-after-year to work at Amazon and welcome new faces to the seasonal team.”

Amazon's Dunfermline centre opened in 2011. It is the biggest centre in the UK.

It covers one million square feet - the size of 14 football pitches- and was purpose-built to support the arrival of 750 jobs.
