Now an appeal has gone out to locals to support them as lockdown continues and the doors to many remain closed.

It comes from Love Oor Lang Toun which is playing a lead role in promoting the town centre.

The social enterprise has urged people to think local first in lockdown - and it is planning a range of promotion to raise awareness of Kirkcaldy’s businesses.

Cara Forrester, from the group said: “We are putting information on our website about the local High Street businesses offering essentials and, in the coming weeks, want to add others who are offering delivery options too.

“We want people to stay home and stay safe, so it’s important to bring information together in one place for people who want to support businesses on their doorstep but don’t have time to search through individual Facebook pages and websites.”

LOLT said the local business community needs the support of everyone as it navigates a challenging time during the latest lockdown.

The group’s work is also over and above the development of the ShopAppy platform which now has over 50 businesses signed up to allow people to still shop local while shopping online.

Added Cara: “It’s a perfect idea for anyone who wants to buy local for Valentine’s Day for example.

“From pamper boxes, to skin care delights, to beautiful jewellery and art work there’s so much choice.”

A call has also gone out to businesses to get involved in LOLT’s latest promotion.

The group is also planning to bring businesses together again online on Wednesday.

The free event is open to all.

Cara added: “We know it is far from easy for the business community right now – they once again face challenges and we are so proud of the way they have already kept going through the last year.

“We want to show the business community they aren’t alone and want to bring them together at our next business engagement event, to give them a virtual place to meet.”
