A92 activists claim concerns are being treated with '˜disdain'

North Glenrothes Community Council has written to Humza Yousaf, the new Scottish Transport Minister, calling for immediate action after claims that Transport Scotland has consistently failed act with any urgency on a number of long-standing safety concerns regarding the A92.

In a strongly worded letter, the community council have told the Minister it had been left “increasingly angered” by the failings of both Transport Scotland and Bear Scotland to agree to further consultation with various communities situated along the A92, despite numerous requests since two heated public meetings in Glenrothes and Freuchie in July.

“We feel we are being treated with disdain, if not contempt”, activists have told the Minister, over the lack of progress.

“Transport Scotland officials are fully aware of local feelings on safety as expressed volubly in July, especially about inaction.’’

And the letter continued:

“Your predecessor did indicate that the A92 here was on his radar, and that no second petition to Parliament was needed.

“Why has this disappeared?”

Community councillors in north Glenrothes have now called on Mr Yousaf to visit the stretch of A92 in Glenrothes to visualise the concerns for himself.

“There was a commitment of sorts from Derek Mackay, Mr Yousaf’s predecessor.

“There is a growing feeling among the public that that is slipping away –and that is not being helped by departments under the Transport Minister’s jurisdiction which are seemingly unwilling to act,” Ron Page, chairman of North Glenrothes Community Council, told the Gazette.

A92 campaigners have been bolstered by the support of Fife MSP’s Jenny Gilruth and Willie Rennie.

Ms Gilruth, Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP, in the Scottish parliament this week highlighted concern over the number or accident on the A92 in recent years.

She added: “The £200,000 of investment already committed towards the A92 is welcome.

“However, Transport Scotland require to improve their communication with local community groups and I look forward to meeting with them next week to discuss this amongst other issues.”
