Brand Rex name set to be retired
Specialist copper wire manufacturer Brand Rex, synonymous with Glenrothes since it set up its production base in the then new town in 1973, is set to change its name to Leviton in the coming weeks.
Leviton acquired Brand-Rex in 2015 and initially ran it as a subsidiary of its Network Solutions division.

Hide AdNow, the two companies have been merged and all but one of Brand-Rex’s products have been integrated into the Leviton portfolio under new branding to provide “a more seamless message and experience”, say bosses.
US-based Brand Rex originally considered several other locations before the ‘new town’ of Glenrothes was selected for its facilities to support industrial growth and due to the large number of high technology companies in the local area.
His Royal Highness Price Bernhard of The Netherlands visited the chosen site of what would be the Brand-Rex Limited plant in April 1972 to perform a tree planting ceremony
Brand-Rex Glenrothes officially opened its doors on the June 9, 1973, with an initial staff of just 25 and an original building included factory and office space of approximately 57,000 sq ft.
The only part of the business to retain the Brand-Rex name going forward is the family of high performance specialty wire products made in the UK for military, rail, and aerospace applications.
