Brave Fife couple open first restaurant during pandemic

A brave Cupar couple who took the decision to open their first restaurant in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, have been rewarded.

Debbie Douglas and Leon Sinclair opened the Greenhouse Bar and Grill, at Cupar Golf Club, on the first day after lockdown ended, welcoming customers for food and drink.

“It’s been so busy,” said Debbie. “It’s great. I’ve been in Cupar forever, so people know us – which is half the battle.

“We love it – and it’s just the two of us. It was supposed to be our little experiment. I love the challenge and you get a buzz from the steady flow of people.”

Debbie and Leon were put on furlough from their jobs at the start of lockdown. When Debbie’s brother, who works at the course, told them that the restaurant was available, the couple jumped at the new opportunity.

“We’ve always wanted to open our own restaurant,” said Debbie. “We sat in the back garden with a glass of wine and thought ‘why not’. Next day we woke up and thought ‘what have we done?’.

The restaurant is open to everyone – not just members. The restaurant, which serves all-day breakfasts, Balgove Larder steaks and much more, is still open during lockdown.
