Coveted ebay award for thriving Fife business

Rachel McGill, of Kirkcaldy-based McGill Motorsports, was named winner of the coveted Family Award at this year’s eBay for Business Awards.

She set up the company on eBay in 2005 to fund her husband’s hobby of racing stock cars.

They discovered a surprisingly large customer base for their products, and now have a showroom and a small team of staff, while their three sons have given up their engineering careers to join the business.

They have designed revolutionary products, such as the world's first race car scales that connect to your phone via an app or Bluetooth.

Rachel said: "Selling to such a niche market is challenging, but the eBay platform offers access to a global customer base, which has always helped us to stay on track.

“Without this access, our company would have remained as a sideline. Instead we’ve been able to build a serious business with a bright future.”
