Dean Park Hotel set to build new wing and 14 new rooms

Fife Council has given planning permission for the new wing, which includes 14 rooms, and more staff facilities on the south end of the building.

There will also be a new laundry facility on the lower ground level, along with staff changing rooms, with the rooms on the g round and first floor taking the total number of rooms to 47.

The development is the latest in a long line of refurbishments made by Colin and Margaret Smart after they took over the hotel in 2019.

Internally, all bars and function rooms have already been revamped, and this summer a new outdoor terrace was unveiled, allowing for outdoor food and drink service.

However, there may still more developments to come, as the family aim to make the hotel a destination for rest, relaxation, and leisure.

Colin told the Press: “We’re delighted we’ve got permission for the extension. We’re quite keen to get started before winter, and hopefully we’ll be ready by March next year.

“We have a lot of weddings booked for 2021, as people have pushed their big day back from this year.

“We’re already looking at about 60 weddings, so you need more accommodation for that, as more and more people these days like to stay over – sometimes they’ll book a couple of nights.

“This’ll take us up to 47 rooms, which makes us the biggest hotel in the area.

“Better accommodation is definitely something that’s needed in the Kirkcaldy area. 

“When there were plans for an airshow in Kirkcaldy, one of the criticisms was that the town doesn’t have enough hotels to support it.”

“There’s huge gap for a leisure destination in Kirkcaldy. I think we’ll see a lot of demand as things get back to normal after lockdown.

“Even now we have a number of people using the Kensington Terrace which opened a few months ago. It’s been a huge success. “
