The Burntisland Sands Hotel has signed up to the Work from Bars scheme which is a new initiative to provide people who are fed up of working from home with a different working environment by connecting them with bars which offer spaces to work in during the day.

The hotel is offering locals the chance to use a table as their own private workspace free of charge – all the owner asks is that they have their breakfast or lunch with them and a cold or hot beverage.

Jason Borthwick explained where the idea came from: “My dad posted the scheme on his Facebook page saying what a cracking idea it was,” he said.

"At this time we are fortunate to have a fair bit of space and we have some power points that people can use. I thought this might be an idea for us to try.

"I sent off an email to the scheme organisers and they added me to a map which you can search for and it shows you which places are doing it.

"We have had about five or six different people coming in to work – it has only been a week or ten days since I posted on Facebook that we were taking part.

"One of them comes in regularly and says it is a great thing.”

He said the workers usually have a breakfast or a lunch and a couple of teas or coffees: “We have a few different rooms here too so we have a more quieter space if people want to use that, we have a few different options for people,” he said.

"The feedback has been that people have enjoyed it and they have been more productive when they have been here, which is great.”

The Burntisland Sands Hotel isn’t the only Fife venue taking part in the scheme – The Boudingait in Cupar is also giving Fifers the chance to rent a workspace table.

People can hire a table for themselves, receive a non-alcoholic drink upon arrival, a breakfast or light lunch, and get free Wi-Fi, for just £15.
