The service was originally offered when the libraries were still closed to the public and staff were able to get back into the buildings.

In just three weeks in July nearly 3700 bags of up to ten books were collected.

When branches started to open their doors again last month, the service came to an end.

However, it’s coming back by popular demand after customers have said they are still keen to use a Connect & Collect service.

Orders are being taken from Monday, September 21 for first collections from Monday, September 28.

The service allows people to go online or call their local library, explain what kind of books they like to read and then a ‘lucky dip’ selection is put together by staff which can then be collected from the library.

June Souter, libraries service development manager, said: “We are delighted to be able to bring this service back.

“So many library users loved the surprise element of discovering what books had been chosen for them but just as importantly it also allows us to stay in touch with customers who are limiting their contacts and don’t want to browse the shelves just yet.”

Twenty-four libraries – more than two thirds of branches – are open again in Fife for people to return books, browse the shelves or use the computers.

The next library to re-open will be Valleyfield Library on Tuesday, September 29.
