Plans move ahead for new Kirkcaldy pub

Amber Taverns is looking to convert the site currently held by Burtons and Dorothy Perkins into a bar, named Montague’s

The pub’s name is a direct reference to Montague Burton, the founder of the store.

Gary Roberts, Operations Director at the Blackpool-based Amber Taverns, said that plans are in their early stages.

"It’s all subject to planning and licensing, as everything has been delayed due to coronavirus.

"But we’ve had some very good meetings with planning, which were very positive, so we don’t think there’ll be any issue.

"I think in the building there’s a stone which was laid by a chap named Montague when they first built it, so we plan to call it Montague’s.

"We envisage developing the ground floor, with the toilets probably on the first floor.

“It could be the middle of next year before we’re open.

"It’s got a really nice frontage, so we have to make sure we maximise on the aesthetics of the building.

"We’ve been in Scotland for about a year, with a pub in Paisley, Coatbridge, and Dumfries, 156 pubs from south Wales upto the M8 corridor.

"We’re looking to carry on expanding in Scotland.

"We’re wet-led, which is not very trendy as most people want to do food. We do a really good refurbishment, keep it simple – almost back to the old community pub.
