£130,000 emergency support for three Fife venues

Three Fife venues have received almost £130,000 in emergency funding from the Scottish Government.

They were among the beneficiaries in the first tranche of awards via the Culture Organisations and Venue Recovery Fund.

A total of 203 organisations received support – from nightclubs to venues which host everything from live music to comedy and visual arts.

The biggest award in Fife went to Nethergate Pubs Limited, which owns Society in Kirkcaldy, which netted £70,000.

The Charlotte Street bar/nightclub has recently added marquees to hits grounds to allow it to serve customers outdoors to comply with restrictions.

The Duchess of Kirkcaldy bar and live music venue has given £34,000.

The bar suffered a double setback with lockdown and then major flooding.

It is still undergoing a major refurbishment, and has yet to open its doors.

Last week, the Duchess - named after a lyric in the Beatles song, Cry Baby Cry from the ‘White’ album - was also named a gold award winner in Fife’s Best Bar None awards.

Dunfermline’s Fire Station Creative was awarded £25,000.

The financial lifelines are designed to protect jobs and support the sustainability of organisations threatened with insolvency by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fiona Hyslop, Culture Secretary, said: “This emergency funding will provide vital support to a wide range of cultural organisations and venues across Scotland currently facing extreme challenges due to the coronavirus pandemic.”

Iain Munro, CEO, Creative Scotland said: “The negative impacts of the pandemic on Scotland‘s creative and cultural sector are clearly ongoing, and we will continue to keep focussed, with the Scottish Government and other partners, on helping those people and organisations in most need.”
