Councillor renews call for action over A92 blackspots

Councillor Altany Craik said the issues surrounding the Balfarg and Cadham junctions, two of the ‘five hazards’, need to be resolved.

He made the call for action ahead of a visit to the A92 by Transport Minister Humza Yousaf, to see some of the safety issues raised by the community.

Mr Yousaf had been expected to visit yesterday (Tuesday), however, the meeting has now been rescheduled for next Wednesday.

The visit follows a promise made by Mr Yousaf last year to visit, after his last one came in October 2016.

Cllr Craik said: “The improvement actions that have taken place, however welcome, are minor in nature and the calls for serious structural improvements have fallen largely on deaf ears.

“The Strategic Transport Project Review is to deal with larger investments but the framework to access this is not yet fixed.

“I am pleased that the Transport Minister, Humsa Yousaf MSP, will be revisiting the site with the local MSP and perhaps this will raise the profile of this long running issue.

“Road safety on the A92 around Glenrothes has been the subject of a vast number of meetings and visits and yet still we are no clearer as to when significant improvements will take place.

“There is common agreement with local community councils, Fife Council and the Glenrothes Area Futures Group about the need to resolve both Balfarg and Cadham junction issues.

“I will write again for a meeting with the Transport Minister after his visit in the hope that we can move this forward. One thing is certain, this issue has been stalled long enough.”
