They will have fewer staff and a limited range of of goods, and extra safety measures will be in place. A delivery service will also be offered to people ion isolation.

At the time John Bayne, joint managing director, said: "We are continuing to implement changes to our format as the safety and well being of our staff and customers remains the highest priority.

"We are delighted to have been able to safely re-open in 42 locations and, when our other shops can, we will continue to open them with extra safety measures in place."

These include fewer staff in-store to enable social distancing and because the range of goods is being limited. Most will also be packaged at the bakery.

Perspex screens have been added to the tills, and customers can only pay by card or, preferrably, contactless.

The number of people allowed inside will also be limited.
