Fife baker wins backing for factory expansion plans

A Fife baker has secured planning permission for an extension to its factory at a Rosyth industrial park.

Stephens Bakery can now proceed with construction of its new unit on Primrose Lane, to the north of its existing building in the Fife town.

It is part of a wider plan that also includes more than 140 new homes in the immediate surroundings of the new production facility, for which planning permission in principle was granted in January 2020.

J Smart & Co (Contractors) PLC, an Edinburgh-based firm overseeing the development, are set to pay almost £1.2 million in contributions towards transport and education provision in order to build the dwellings, a quarter of which will be affordable homes.

Fife Council case officer Natasha Cockburn has given the detailed proposals for the 24,000 sq ft facility the green light on the condition that further assessments of the site are carried out and submitted to the authority before construction begins.
