Fife business to send award-winning haggis to Hong Kong
Fife business The Farmer’s Son has secured a listing with high-end supermarket, City Super, to export its award-winning black pudding, haggis and white pudding across the globe to Hong Kong.
Founded four years ago, The Farmer’s Son, based at Clentrie Farm in Auchtertool, produces a range of artisan Scottish meat puddings from locally sourced all-natural Scottish ingredients.
Sourcing the best local ingredients is really important to founder Pete Mitchell, who only uses the finest PGI Scotch Beef, local high welfare pork and Scottish produced oats in his food.
The introduction with the luxury Hong Kong store was made when The Farmer’s Son showcased their products at a Scotland Food and Drink export event.
Partnering with City Super, who operate 21 stores in Hong Kong, it offered The Farmer’s Son an opportunity to share their delicious products in prime location stores in the city, in time for Scottish expats to celebrate Burns Night on January 25.
However, the path to one of Hong Kong’s most prestigious stores has not been without its challenges as The Farmer’s Son had to contend with a global pandemic, and local political unrest.
Mr Mitchell started the business in 2016 using a 100-year-old all natural family recipe when he had been made redundant from his city job at JP Morgan.
His family’s farming roots date back to the 1700s. The family farm, now in the 11th generation, continue this long tradition, today producing exceptional quality food, sustainable and ethically produced with outstanding flavour.
Mr Mitchell is delighted his latest deal has been a success: ‘We initially started talks over a year ago, however with such uncertainty over the year, both locally in Hong Kong and globally with the coronavirus pandemic we were unsure if the deal would go ahead.
"We are delighted that all our hard work has paid off and our first order to City Super is on its way.”
He added: “We are very excited to be able to take our award-winning products to the Hong Kong market, we have already seen a high demand in the UK with luxury food retailers up and down the country selling our products.
"We feel that the desire from Hong Kong consumers to procure the best will make The Farmer’s Son the perfect fit at City Super.”
