Fife Free Press named Scottish Weekly Newspaper of the Year

Judges praise “paper which really reflects its community”

The Press was honoured in the Scottish Press Awards which were due to be held last night – the traditional gathering was postponed because of the coronavirus.

The winners were announced , and the Press triumphed for a fourth time in six years, with previous wins in 2015, 2016 and 2019.The newspaper was also shortlisted in 2017.

The judges said: ““With some imaginative and eye-catching front pages, from the news section through to some brilliant sports pages, it’s a paper which really reflects the community it serves because it informs the readers but stands up for them too.”

Event organisers said the quality of entries this year “was exceptional across all categories.”

The Falkirk Herald was named runner-up. Both it and the Press are published by JPI Media.
