Balbirnie House Hotel may be closed, but it had reason to cheer this week as it was named Scottish Wedding Hotel of the Year 2020 – the 14th time in 16 years it had triumphed.

It also won the wedding planning team of the year for the second year running.

The 2020 awards were broadcast digitally with the hotel team following online via Zoom.

In a joint statement the directors said: ‘We pay tribute to everyone involved for enabling the 2020 awards to actually take place broadcasting digitally.

“We were especially struck by chairman, Gary McLean-Quin’s opening footage, on the theme of kindness amongst such unprecedented and challenging times.”

The awards followed on from the hotel’s ground-breaking success at the 2019 Haute Grandeur global hotel awards held in Kuala Lumpur last year where it was named ‘Best Destination Wedding Hotel’ in the global category – the first such title to be won from any European hotel.
