The Boudingait in Cupar is giving Fifers the chance to rent a table and use it as their own private workspace.

People can hire a table for themselves, receive a non-alcoholic drink upon arrival, a breakfast or light lunch, and get free Wi-Fi, for just £15.

“We saw comments about people being stuck at home and having no interaction,” said owner Lorna Lidderdale. “It’s a change of scenery.”

The service runs Monday-Friday, 8.30am-5pm. Call 01334 208310 for details.

Lorna came up with the idea following the introduction of the latest Covid-19 restrictions, which means the pub has to close at 6pm.

Lorna said: “It does not seem fair to have a blanket ban.

“Our business is about 60 per cent food, 40 per cent drinks. A lot of our customers are of an older generation. We have families coming in for food. It’s not groups of youngsters coming in to get drunk. The older people are not coming in to get drunk, but to have a chat and socialise.

“We are now having to shut at 6pm. We’ll open earlier for breakfasts. We tried the idea out before and it’s not taken off. Some of the staff were in shock about getting up that early.”

As well as testing a new breakfast menu, the bar is also running a takeaway service.
