A VIP – very important pup – visited Sainsbury’s Leven store recently to say a huge thank you for setting her on the journey to becoming a guide dog.

Little Cammock is now six months old but has already learned many of the basic obedience commands that will be used when she goes out into the world as part of a Guide Dog partnership.

Although this is Cammock’s first visit, the staff at the Leven store have heard all about her progress over the last few months since they raised £5000 to choose her name.

They chose Cammock by way of thanking a retired employee, Allan Cammock, for his wonderful dedication over his 26 years service with Sainsbury’s.

Allan was able to go along to meet Cammock and was immediately taken with her, as were the rest of the staff team.

Lindsay Epps of Sainsbury’s, Leven says: “It was really exciting to meet Cammock, It was also great to meet her puppy raiser, Dave and to find out all about the training and what her personality is like.

"These little things bring us closer to the whole process and it’s fascinating.”

Eleanor Black, Name a Puppy Visit Co-ordinator from Guide Dogs, said: “Puppy visits are really special. People then get to see that all the time and effort they put into fundraising has borne fruit in the training of this dog. It makes it all so worthwhile.”

It costs just under £50,000 to support a Guide Dog partnership from the birth of the pup right through to its retirement aged about 10.

Guide Dogs, as an organisation, does not receive any government funding for this service. Without the generosity of public donation, they would be unable to support the 4,500 Guide Dog partnerships that are currently active in the UK.

The Guide Dogs organisation promises that it will supply every guide dog owner with a dog for as long as they need one. For some people, depending on age and circumstances may need six or seven dogs during their lifetime.
