A St Andrews wine shop has won an award recognising it as the best in Scotland.

St Andrews Wine Company, based on Bell Street, scooped the title for Best Local Wine Shop 2020 at the Decanter Magazine awards.

It is the first time the shop, which was opened by owner Peter Wood in 2012, has won an award, though the shop was shortlisted for the same prize last year.

So how did Peter react when he learned he had won?

“A bit of a shock to be honest,” he said.

“The competition is really high, with some brilliant wine shops out there. The massive shock was the incredible amount of social media attention we got when it was announced. Many customers, both past and present, congratulated us and showed how much they love this shop.”

The business was not able to crack open a bottle and let loose because of the current restrictions, but Peter hopes to have a proper celebration when they are allowed.

St Andrews Wine Company focuses on organic, vegan and natural wines made by family-run producers.

It delivers its products free across north east Fife as well as running a click and collect service.
