First aid success for practitioners

Early Years Practitioner Megan Oxton from St Andrews, Chelsea Milne from Cupar, who is a trainee practitioner, and Josephine Henderson from St Andrews, also a trainee practitioner, attended the course at Glenwood High School in Glenrothes.

Aimed at giving first aid to children aged two to seven years, and with a separate section for babies under two, the course covered dealing with a range of emergencies such as choking, epilepsy and asthma, teaching the five step procedure.

Megan said: “We all really enjoyed this vital course and feel very proud of ourselves at passing it first time. It was intense, covering a lot of different issues. It has made us feel so much more confident in our day to day working within the Nursery.” Josephine Henderson said: “Learning these new skills and how to put them into practice has made me feel that I could definitely cope with a first aid situation at work.”

Chelsea Milne said: “Learning how to respond to different age groups was very helpful indeed, as I work with the babies. The clear five step procedure can really save a life.”

Jennifer Martin, managing director of Little Beehives, added: “Well done indeed to these three girls, two of them still completing training with us. They have applied themselves extremely well indeed, and are all three are a real asset to the business and are popular with our parents and the children.”
