Tom Courts has taken up the role after serving as president elect for the past two years under outgoing president, Scott Jarron.

The federation is the only organisation dedicated to representing and promoting the interests of Scottish butchers.

Tom explained what his role will involve.

"I will be the public face of the organisation dealing with partner organisations, external agencies and public bodies up to government level,” he said.

"I will also chair both the finance and executive committees of the Federation.

“I am looking forward to promoting the interests of my trade in general and in particular the wider membership and build on the excellent work carried out by our immediate past president.”

He continued: “When I started as a Saturday boy in my father's business in 1984, I never for a minute thought I would one day lead the industry.

“In such uncertain times – Brexit and a global pandemic - I have no doubt this won't be an easy challenge, but it is one I am up for and look forward to taking the role forward over the next couple of years.”

Tom added: “I have had some great mentors over the years, not least my dad, and have had the pleasure of serving under Scott.

“Juggling this new role with an expanding business will not be easy, but I have a great team in the federation offices at Perth and my own HQ in Burntisland.”
