The field at Mid Mire, north of Kinghorn, sits near a site already earmarked for development at Tyrie Farm just south of Kirkcaldy.

A planning application has been lodged with Fife Council to start a consultation, before it can be marketed to a developer.

Gladman Scotland, which promotes land for housing, has lodged the application on behalf of the owner, and is hoping to hold the next stage of consultation, which was postponed by the lockdown.

Michael Izzi , land director said: “It’s a logical for expansion for Kinghorn.

“It could be key to the settlement allowing affordable homes for more families to come to the area.

“It’s important to get a mix and range of house types within the development.

“We were due to meet the community in April, but we had to pospone the event, so we’re working with Fife Council to see how we’re going to manage that.

“The consultation is a really important part of the process. You take on the comments , t and incorporate that into the plan when it comes forward.

“The more active the community is in engaging with us the better, as it helps it shape the future of the village.”

Over the last few years new developments have seen houses spring up along the road passing Kinghorn Loch.

A 10-year-old plan was revived in late 2019 for 1200 homes at Tyrie and Invertiel Farms near Kirkcaldy.

Michael said the area had great appeal to families.

He added: “Kinghorn is a very sustainable village, bordering on town status, and it allows people all the comforts of a village with nice shops and good transport links. It allows commuters into Edinburgh or Dundee. It is an open, central position to locate your family in a nice seaside town.”
