Glen Housing Association is trying to find out if people who live in the Broom Estate would be interested in becoming involved in the running of the Balmaise Centre.

The facility, which is currently owned by Fife Council, hosts a number of local programmes and is let out for community use.

Glen Housing Association says that the development of a local management committee to run the facility could have several advantages for the area.

David McGrath, community development worker with Glen Housing Association, said that the introduction of a committee to help run the centre could lead to more usage.

He said: “Local management committees can help develop programmes in community facilities which local communities would like to see happening.

“An enthusiastic committee can lead to more usage of the centre and could instill a lot of pride and confidence in the local area.”

The Balmaise Centre is one of a number of Fife facilities which can be applied to be taken over by communities through a Community Asset Transfer (CAT).

A public meeting has been organised for 7pm on February 21, and will be hosted at the centre.
