The pub beat other finalists in Edinburgh and Dundee, and was presented with the award at an event in Glasgow, hosted by TV comedian Sean Lock.

Bar manager Sharon McBride said: “It felt pretty amazing to receive the award.

“We were up against two strong contenders in the final – one of which is a beer hall in Edinburgh, so we were really pleased.

“For me, the staff, and the customers, it’s just fantastic.

“It’s great to see the staff get recognition for all their hard work.”

Claire Nicoll, of The Keys Bar, St Andrews, was also highly commended in the Bartender of the Year category.

SLTN editor Gillian McKenzie said: “SLTN has reported on, and for, the Scottish licensed trade for more than 50 years and while trading conditions today might be tougher than they’ve ever been, the standard of premises has never been higher.

“Pubs, bars, restaurants, clubs and hotels play a vital role in Scotland as the heartbeat of communities – providing a warm welcome to tourists and as major employers. Their importance must not be overlooked.
