The comments from David Torrance come after InfraStrata announced the acquisition of two yards run by the Scottish manufacturer Burntisland Fabrication (BiFab) on Friday.
It has bought two of the three yards out of administration – the Methil site in Fife and the Arnish site in Lewis.
But Burntisland is not part of the deal.

A total of 29 employees are being transferred, with those on furlough brought back to re-establish operations at the sites.
Both sites will trade under Infrastrata’s Harland & Wolff brand which also has facilities in Belfast and Appledore.

Methil, the larger of the two, will focus on fabrication for the oil and gas, commercial and renewables markets, according to the new owners.
Mr Torrance welcomed the news but said there is still hope a buyer can be found for the yard at Burntisland.

"However, this is not the end for the yard. There is still the potential for another buyer to step in and I, along with my Scottish Government colleagues, will be continuing to work with Forth Ports to secure the best possible future for the yard.”
Mr Torrance contacting the new owners to arrange a meeting with himself and constituency Peter Grant a soon as possible to discuss its plans for the future of the yard.
