Kirsty Williamson (29) owns Perfection Hairdressing and decided, after finding staff were “falling over each other”, to move to a bigger salon just a few doors along on Commercial Street.

The move is a testament to the success of the business, which started in 2012, although Kirsty’s roots in hairdressing go back further.

“I worked in Jackal’s Hair Studio on Kirkcaldy High Street, starting as a Saturday girl when I was 13,” she said.

“By the time I was 20 I was actually managing the salon. It had changed hands and was called Artistry Hair and Beauty.

“That was quite a test in itself because I was managing people who had taught me and were double my age.

“From there I decided to go mobile, but found that really wasn’t for me so then I decided to open up Perfection in 2012.”

Kirsty says her early experience meant that she had already acquired many business skills.

“Because I’d had that experience of opening a salon I just went ahead and did it all myself,” she said. “I also work as a teacher for Matrix Hair Care and deal with a lot of salon owners, so I know people in business.

“But in the beginning I just had to go with it and learn from my mistakes.”

The open day for the new salon was a huge success. “I wasn’t sure anyone would show up but it was mayhem,” she said.

Her business is going from strength to strength but Kirsty said her methods are simple: “If I keep my staff happy and ensure that the customers are well looked after, then the business will just carry on.”
