Mossmoran staff donate PPE kit to Fife health workers

Hundreds of surplus masks, goggles, gloves and paper coveralls have been donated by workers at Fife Ethylene Plant.

ExxonMobil, together with its main contractors Doosan Babcock, Kaefer and Bilfinger UK have worked together to release the much-needed PPE to help protect Fife’s vital front line workers.

The collection came about after a number of employees who have partners or spouses working in the NHS asked if the site could do anything to help supplement the NHS' own supplies, which are in huge demand.

It was all collected and passed on to the NHS this week through the wife of an ExxonMobil process planner who is an ICU nurse working at Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital.

ExxonMobil donated around 200 face masks, on top of the hundreds of pairs of goggles it has already given to Fife Council for its dedicated home care staff.

FEP’s main contractors also got involved, with Doosan Babcock, Kaefer and Bilfinger UK stepping up to add hundreds of masks, safety goggles and paper coveralls as well as thousands of pairs of disposable gloves.

Jacob McAlister, plant manager, said: “We are happy to continue to play a part in keeping our incredible frontline heroes safe and well.

“We hope our donation will help keep all the wonderful doctors, nurses and home care staff safe and able to keep doing their valuable work.”

Calum Gallacher, site manager with Bilfinger UK, said: “We are delighted to help the local Fife NHS teams by donating PPE to front line and support staff.

“Our simple donation alongside that of ExxonMobil and other contractors, again shows our commitment and support to the communities in Fife.”

Julie Paterson, Fife Health and Social Care Partnership Divisional General Manager said: “Sending us vital PPE equipment is a fabulous response in this emergency.

“It will help us to continue to keep staff in our most critical and frontline services safe and able to support the most vulnerable people in the community.
