MSP calls for Rosyth to be part of Scottish Govt's green ports initiative

A Fife MSP has welcomed Scottish Government plans to develop sustainable green ports - with the hope that Rosyth could be among the beneficiaries.

It has been suggested as a possible site as part of the new initiative.

Free ports allow businesses to import goods and then re-export them outside normal tax and customs rules.

The Scottish Government’s blueprint would see them pay the real living wage, and commit to supporting sustainable inclusive growth in the communities they serve.

Annabelle Ewing SNP MSP for Cowdenbeath constituency, welcomed the plans.

She said: “The Scottish Green Port model will be an exemplar, adopting best practice which helps deliver the Scottish Government’s net-zero emissions and fair work principles, alongside supporting regeneration and innovation ambitions.

“I hope that Rosyth, in my constituency, can benefit from this modern and forward-thinking approach.”

She added: “By applying Scottish values and priorities to create Green Ports, they can become a very useful tool in building a fair and sustainable recovery.”
