New drive-thru gets go ahead in Fife town

A new drive-thru restaurant has been the go-ahead in Cupar.

Councillors approved the application from Burger King on South Road.

It will be positioned beside a new Tesco and garden centre on the former Reekie Group garage site which is due to be turned into a retail park.

The restaurant will cater for around 46 people and the site is positioned in the corner of the supermarket's service road.

A service/delivery bay area will be located west of the building alongside eight parking spaces and two ‘grill’ spaces for short-term parking customers collecting orders.

A further seven parking spaces spaces to the north of the building will include two accessibility spaces.

Concerns of smell and litter from the proposed development were raised with councillors at yesterday's planning meeting.

However, case officer Chris Smith noted there would be extraction and ventilation fans to combat the problem as well as bins.

Cllr Tim Brett noted issues with the restaurant being open until late as the planning application did not state a operating hours.

He said: "With cars going in and out at late weekend nights, there could be problems and I'm conscious when we've had others for takeaways we have imposed hours of opening."

Cllr Karen Marjoram said that in the rest of the town "you can’t get chips after ten o'clock at night" so it would be 'incongruous' if the opening hours did not reflect this local trend.

The planning application was approved with a closing time of 11:00pm.
