A petition was launched by Kirkcaldy councillor Judy Hamilton calling on the council to install the upgrade after a ‘significant’ increase in traffic since the Co-op store and post office were relocated to Bennochy Road.

The pair have recently been out collecting names from local people who share their concerns.

Claire Baker MSP said: “I am delighted to support Judy Hamilton in her campaign for a crossing at the Co-op.

“Judy is right to call for traffic calming measures, and it is clear after speaking to locals that they agree.

“As a hard working local councillor, Judy has a strong track record standing up for her constituents, this petition is just further proof of that.”

Cllr Hamilton added: “Having the Post Office facility in the Co-Op store is a great move for locals and is clearly popular within the community.

“However, this cannot be at the expense of the safety of locals and the significant increase in traffic is a cause for concern.

“That is why I have started a petition for the introduction of a crossing in the area. This small move can make a big difference in calming traffic and making the area safer for all.

“Speaking to locals there is clear support for this and I hope that those that already haven’t will join me in signing my petition.”

You can sign the petition at either the Co-op store or The Steadings restaurant.
