Plans for a new housing development, which would significantly expand the size of Kinghorn, have been updated.

Lovell Homes is set to build 133 homes on land at the former Lochside Works on the B923 Kinghorn to Burntisland Road.

The former tannery site has been the subject of a number of development bids stretching back almost 20 years.

Lovell Homes was given permission to build in 2016. Its latest application to Fife Council is to remove a condition of approval given four years ago.

The homes will be a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes in a combination of 14 different detached and semi-detached designs.

It’s the latest bid to develop the site of the former tannery, Lochside Leatherworks, which ceased operation in 2001. The land was also used as a candle works prior to WW1, and a railway siding and a Ministry of Defence naval store after WW2.

In 2003, councillors approved plans for 139 homes but, three years later, the application was withdrawn.

In 2007, a new plan for 125 homes was proposed, and them, two years later, one for 131 homes plus a 60-bed care home.

The latter was approved in 2010, but, months later, councillors refused a bid to build a 78-bed care home.

Lovell Homes’ plans to develop the site were first proposed in 2015.

The company is currently marketing the development on its website.
