Vandalised skate park to be renewed as part of £400k funding for Fife town

Over the next two years £400,000 is to be made be available from Fife Council’s capital budget, and town’s councillors have already agreed on a number of facilities to be upgraded.

Among them is the skate park in Tanshall that was recently the target of vandals who set fire to wooden ramp supports causing parts of the park to be condemned.

Redesigning and replacing the existing facility is to be allocated £120,000.

In a rare show of cross-party unity, town councillors agreed to push ahead with the improvements rather than wait until after the forthcoming council elections.

Labour councillor Altany Craik’s motion was seconded by SNP’s John Beare, in what Mr Craik called a “a good day for collaborative politics and practical problem solving”.

He added: “The committee agreed the need to get these projects started rather than wait until the election was past and avoid the delays that would occur.

“Investment in the recently vandalised skatepark can now take place delivering a facility that the whole community can use, including the installation of green gym equipment and a shelter as well as replacing the current skate park elements.”

John Dixon Park in Markinch is to get £25,000, while an upgrade to Carelton Park will receive £65,000. Gilvenbank Park is to get £40,000 for drainage work. Funding of £110,000 is still to allocated.
