'We are firmly committed to A92 safety' '“ Transport Scotland

Department representatives faced angry residents when they attended two recent public meetings in July, with many frustrated at what many claim is the apparent lack of conviction and willingness of Transport Scotland to commit comprehensive safety improvements on the notorious stretch of trunk road.

However, following further criticism from community leaders last week and a call from Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth for Transport Scotland to improve communication with the public, a spokesman for the government body has told the Gazette it remains committed to improving the A92.

“We are firmly committed to improving safety on the A92 and to completing the recommendations of the A92 Cadham to Balfarg Pedestrian Assessment,” said a spokesman.

“Transport Minister Humza Yousaf met Fife Council to discuss the issue last week and Transport Scotland representatives have had constructive talks with local MSPs this week.

“Plans for Mr Yousaf to visit the area in the coming weeks are underway as are proposals for further community meetings.”

It’s understood the Minister’s visit will take place before the end of the year.

The current £200,000 of improvements scheduled for this financial year have been described as ‘derisory’ by A92 campaigners.
