Fife MP backs pub as nominated finalist
Melanie Ward, MP for Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy constituency, visited the Auld Hoose in Kinghorn this week to congratulate the team after the pub was named a finalist in the Community Fundraising Hero category of the UK Pub Aid Community Pub Hero Awards.
The Auld Hoose, which was nominated for the accolade by Ms Ward, is one of only two Scottish finalists in the category, which celebrates pubs that go above and beyond for their local community.
The pub has built a reputation for its fundraising efforts, most notably through its regulars' Sunday Open Mic Night, which has become a cornerstone of its charitable work.
The team also runs regular race nights, hosts tea parties for older residents, offers free lounge space for charitable events, and more.

Ms Ward met with organisers Brian Nairn, Paul Plunkett, and Sharon Plunkett, who have led much of the pub's community work, as well as former manager Karen Begg, to pull and enjoy a pint, and hear more about their fundraising activities.
Ms Ward said: “It was a pleasure to enjoy a pint at the Auld Hoose with the team behind this fantastic achievement.
“I was delighted to nominate the team for their exceptional work, and I am equally delighted that they have been selected as one of only two Scottish finalists in the Community Fundraising Hero category.
“This acknowledgment of their work is a huge testament to everything they do for the Kinghorn community, from the Open Mic Nights to the tea parties, right down to the regulars' dominoes competition which was running during my visit and everything in between.
“They raise vital funds for community causes like the Kinghorn Children’s Gala, Kinghorn RNLI and Kinghorn Community Library. Pubs like the Auld Hoose are such an important part of our cultural fabric here in Fife, and I'll be cheering them on at the awards.
“Whatever happens on the night, they've already shown what a difference a local pub can make.”
