Two Wiltshire based soldiers are cycling from their base to the French town of Cambrai to raise money for the bereaved children of fallen service personnel.

Two members of the Royal Tank Regiment based in Warminster are about to embark on an epic cycling expedition to raise funds for the charity Scotty's Little Soldiers. A charity which supports the bereaved children of service personnel who have died during their service. The Tankies will be cycling from their home camp to the French town of Cambrai via Portsmouth and Caen. Setting off on the 17th of November, they aim to arrive on the 20th of November, the anniversary of the Battle of Cambrai in 1917, and a sacred day for the Regiment.

Mick Ryan from Kirkcaldy and Sam Batchelor from the West Midlands have been training for the challenge for over six months. Putting in the miles around the, often steep and hilly, lanes and roads of Wiltshire and North East Somerset has been an arduous task but the squadies have attacked the task with the vigour and enthusiasm that their unit is known for.

Scotty's Little Soldiers was started in honour of Cpl Lee Scott, a member of the Royal Tank Regiment who was tragically killed in Afghanistan. The charity has gone on to become a lifeline and place of comfort for the many children who have lost a parent in the service of the country. It was because of this regimental connection and the fantastic work the charity does that Ryan and Batchelor took up the challenge. The pair have set up a Just Giving page to help raise funds and the more support they get the more the saddle sores will be worth it!
