Walk the Waterfront with Greener Kirkcaldy
Greener Kirkcaldy is inviting local people to come together and explore how Kirkcaldy’s Waterfront could become greener, more welcoming and a better place to spend time.
The local charity and development trust is holding two Waterfront Greenspace Walkabouts in September as part of its work to develop a Community Greenspace Strategy for Kirkcaldy.
The interactive events will give people chance to walk along the waterfront, explore key locations and share ideas about what the area.
Greener Kirkcaldy wants to hear what people value about the Waterfront now, what could be improved and how its green and public spaces could work better for the people who live in, work in and visit Kirkcaldy.
The events will build on previous conversations with local people. What people share will help develop the Community Greenspace Strategy and will also feed into wider regeneration work in Kirkcaldy.
Two sessions are being held to give people a choice of when to take part: Tuesday, September 22, 11.30am–1pm, meeting outside Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre and Wednesday, September 23, 6–7.30pm, meeting at Volunteers Green.
People can book in advance or simply drop in on the day.
Lauren Brook, Greener Kirkcaldy Chief Executive, said: “We want local people to be at the heart of developing the Community Greenspace
Strategy.
“These walkabouts are a chance to get out onto the Waterfront together, look at what’s there now and explore what could make it greener, more welcoming and a better place to spend time.
“We’ll have some initial ideas and visuals to help get conversations started, but nothing is set in stone. We’re really interested in people’s own ideas, experiences and local knowledge – both about the places we’ll visit and the Waterfront as a whole.”
The Waterfront is the starting point for the wider Kirkcaldy Community Greenspace Strategy. Greener Kirkcaldy will be holding further events in different locations across Kirkcaldy, giving communities opportunities to talk about green spaces in other parts of the town and develop ideas for their future too.
