Vets opens new Borders farm practice

The Alnorthumbria Veterinary Group is opening a new farm-only veterinary practice at Shotton Farm.

The new facility marks another milestone in Alnorthumbria’s long-standing commitment to supporting local farmers with expert, progressive, and community-focused farm veterinary care, by expanding its agricultural services across the Bowmont valley, North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.

The new Shotton Farm practice will be headed by farm vet Dr. Harry Walby who has worked in the profession for over a decade.

Harry brings a passion for livestock health and production medicine, with a particular interest in sustainable herd and flock management across both beef and dairy enterprises.

He holds a Post-graduate Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice.

“Our goal at Shotton Farm is to be right at the heart of the farming community – providing practical, evidence-based support to help farmers get the best from their herds and flocks,” he said.

The expansion into the Bowmont Valley marks an exciting new chapter for Alnorthumbria’s farm division.

For the first time, the team can extend its services up to the Scottish border and beyond, offering local farmers the same comprehensive and responsive veterinary care long established across Northumberland.

Alnorthumbria Vet Group is part of the CVS Farm Group and is well established in Northumberland, combining trusted local relationships with modern, evidence-led veterinary care.

The practice operates across six mixed and companion animal branches, with a dedicated farm team delivering high-quality clinical services, herd health planning, and emergency support 24/7.

Alnorthumbria’s farm division focuses on proactive herd and flock health management – helping clients enhance productivity, welfare, and sustainability through data-driven decision-making and tailored veterinary support.

The Shotton Farm site provides a convenient hub for clients across the Borders, offering facilities for on-farm work, farmer meetings, and practical workshops on topics such as fertility management, calf health, and responsible medicine use.

Harry added: “I’m keen to help farmers achieve their goals – whether that’s improving productivity, animal welfare, or long-term sustainability.

"It’s about being part of their success.”
