Balloons and cake mark 15 years of youth support at Cupar's Cafe

It was a party atmosphere at the Cupar Youth Cafe who celebrated at Watts on September 22 to mark 15 years of operation.

The project was formed in 2001 in response to demand from the young people of the town

Represenatives of organisations who have provided funding over the years joined the youngsters from the past and present to enjoy cake, music and refreshments.

Councillor David Ross, leader of Fife Council addressed the group: “Voluntary run projects like the Youth Café make an incredibly valuable contribution to our communities. This kind of work with young people helps build their confidence and skills, and a strong foundation for their future lives. I’m very pleased the Council has been able to support this initiative over the years and would add my thanks to the many volunteers and staff who have been involved with the project.”

Over that time the cafe has generated much interest amongst local and national politicians and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has visited twice in the recent year.

Charlie Milne, managing commitee chairman said: “The strength of the project has been that its roots were founded in the community with tremendous local support along the way and also the ability of the Cafe to adapt and provide projects to match the demand and needs of the young people in the areas needs.” The formal event was rounded-off with a musical performance by a number of bands which was opened for the public to enjoy.
