Burntisland company gives £10,000 Christmas gift to local school

Briggs Marine donated £10,000 to the school just before pupils and staff broke off for the festive break.

Julie Anderson, headteacher, said Briggs Marine have been an amazing support to the school over the years.

She said: “We were absolutely overwhelmed with the incredibly generous donation of £10 000 from Briggs Marine this Christmas. We feel truly humbled by the company’s generosity. Collieson (Briggs managing director) and his sisters were former pupils of the school and Briggs Marine provide employment for many of our parents in the town.

“The company has donated this money so that we can use it to support some of our most vulnerable families through a variety of interventions. This includes supplying appropriate clothing for some children, providing snacks, part funding support staff, buying resources and funding initiatives to support children who are facing really challenging times and to target the places which need it most.

She continued: “This last year has been so challenging and difficult for so many, we, at Burntisland Primary School, have helped in many ways by delivering resource packs, food packs and toys during lockdown.

"More recently, we have been distributing the town's gifts of presents which were collected and donated by local people through the Giving Tree but this donation allows for continued support throughout the year for children who might really need it all year round.”

“The money will make a tremendous difference and we really can't thank Briggs Marine enough.”

The donation comes after Briggs Marine’s managing director was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in October.

Collieson Briggs received an MBE for services to vulnerable people during the Covid-19 response.

He said his company was delighted to help the local primary school: “As a local business, Briggs Marine is pleased to show its support to Burntisland Primary School again in 2020.

"This year has been tough on many families and we know that the school will use the funds to support the most vulnerable children as well as investing in various development programmes for the children and their families throughout the coming year."
