David packs a punch for a worthy cause

David Penman, (34) from Kirkcaldy has signed up to Ultra White Collar Boxing which will enable him to take part in a charity boxing match to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The organisation provides intense, weekly training which will help prepare David for the final match.

Not a stranger to boxing, David first stepped foot in the ring eight years ago and found a great passion for the sport. Unfortunately, due to other commitments in life his hobby slowly fizzled out. However, when his friend signed up for Ultra White Collar Boxing last year, David’s excitement and energy for the game came rushing back and he knew it was something that he had to do.

David has attended regular training sessions at Raw Anatomy in Glenrothes with approximately 30 other fundraisers from across Fife.

He has found the sessions challenging, yet rewarding, feeling a little more confident and at ease after every session.

David said: “My Grandad passed away 15 years ago from cancer. We were extremely close and it has made me constantly worry about the rest of my family and other people in general. I hope by raising money for this amazing charity I can help these people and support Cancer Research UK to make a difference.”

David is currently studying NC Creative Industries: Broadcast Media and hopes to progress onto a HND in Technical Theatre so he can enrol into university to study film.

Media lecturer at Fife College, Rona MacLeod is very proud of David’s determination. Rona said: “I was delighted when David told me what he was doing. I know all his hard work will pay off.”
