Lilian had been due to leave the role at the club’s AGM earlier this year, but it was cancelled due to the Covid-19 restrictions, and she has decided to go now rather than waiting until 2021.

She said: “It had been my intention to stand down as president in March 2020, but due to the pandemic the annual general meeting has been delayed and will not take place until March 2021.

“However, I think that the time is now right to stand down and allow the board to get on with organising the club.

“It has been a pleasure to work with you all over the years and I have many happy memories. I wish you all the best for the future.”

At the meeting of the board of management Helen Dick was elected to replace Lilian as the new president.

This means that Helen has stood down as treasurer with Grant Newell returning to the role after a break of several years.

Ian Sloan continues to be secretary and the other board members are Karen Crombie, Janette Evans, Alan Kennedy and Carol Wardlow.

Meanwhile, after consulting with Fife Cultural Trust the board has agreed that it is not viable to hold the exhibition in the Fifespace Gallery of the Rothes Halls later this year.

Ian said: “The work involved would far exceed the returns we would likely get. When it is safe to do so, Glenrothes Art Club will be programmed in as the first exhibition in the Rothes Halls, once restrictions are relaxed.

“Members are encouraged to keep producing their art work so that we can have a bumper number of entries for our next annual exhibition.”

In the meantime a six-week rotation of members’ work in the display windows of Glenrothes Art Centre in the Kingdom Shopping Centre is being introduced, which will be available for purchase.

The club’s normal programme has resumed with the art group meeting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1-3pm and the craft group meeting on Tuesday from 1-3pm.

Between the two groups for younger people ‘The Arty Bunch’ for children aged 8-12 and ‘#TAG -Teenage Art Group’ have also restarted.

Members may make use of the art club studios at any time when Caledonia House is open, which is normally Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm.

Ian said: “The board of management have discussed at length the Scottish Government’s guidance on re-opening our art club studios and clubrooms.

“We have carried out a risk assessment and produced a set of guidelines for the use of the premises. There are hand-sanitiser bottles in various locations and notices with information which we trust members will comply with.”
