The 2020 intake of early years officer modern apprentices at Fife Council has been put on hold.

Coronavirus restrictions on physical distancing meaning the recruitment schedule has been delayed from October to to January 2021 – and that date may also be fluid.

All nursery schools are also currently closed, impacting on the scheme.

Councillor Fay Sinclair, education services convener, said “This apprenticeship is an on the job experience, based within nurseries.

“It would have proved impossible for apprentices to be given the necessary training to help them work towards their qualification. Once we have firm plans in place for how nurseries will reopen and operate, we will have a clearer idea of how the apprenticeship will be delivered.

“We understand that there are a lot of disappointed people who were waiting for the advert to go live just at the point of lockdown. We’d like to thank those of you who have been in touch to ask what our position is. “
